2015 in Review
2015 was a massive year for AMPed! We started off fresh, revamping and relaunching the society in March, aiming to provide QUT’s advertising, marketing, public relations and international business students with an added advantage when entering industry. Striving to create the most value for our members, we held multiple social and professional events including jointly presenting the QUT Business Ball, and launched two exciting initiatives—Careers Month and Snapchat Takeovers.
Semester one started with a bang thanks to our Launch Party. Held at QUT’s Botanic Bar, the event was an opportunity for our members to mingle over pizza and drinks. The Launch Party certainly left its mark, signalling AMPed was back and ready for a huge year.
We brought back AMPed’s signature panel nights, in two ways. Semester one saw recent QUT graduates working in ‘dream’ jobs return for AMPed’s A-Listers Panel Night to discuss how they landed their job and offer up industry advice. Semester two’s panel night featured industry decision makers who gave handy pointers on do’s and don'ts when applying for jobs and how to position yourself as the best candidate for graduate positions.
On July 31 QUT’s Business Societies jointly presented the 2015 Business Ball, and boy was it a roaring success! Over 650 gathered for a winter wonderland themed ball at the Landing at the Dockside, Kangaroo Point. Dressed to the nines, attendees enjoyed drinks and canapés by the river, captured memories in an igloo photo booth and danced the night away. If you missed out, never fear. We can assure you the Business Ball will be back and bigger than ever in 2016.
Launched in week four of semester two, our inaugural Careers Month featured several workshops—including a resume lab and Adobe Photoshop and InDesign how-to classes—designed to help members increase their employability, making them the perfect candidate for internships and graduate roles.
The month concluded with AMPed’s 2015 Networking Night, held at The Fox Hotel. Our members put their perfected skills to use, connecting with industry personnel from some of Brisbane's best agencies and in-house teams. Using the night as a foot in the door, some members were offered exciting opportunities in the weeks following.
Semester two also saw the launch of our Snapchat Takeovers initiative. Using the social platform, local, national and international AMPR and IB professionals took over AMPed’s account for a day, providing a snapshot of a day in their lives. We loved the our Snapchat Takeovers, and our members did too! The initiative was a great success, and we are excited for it to return in 2016.
Throughout the semester AMPed also held a Firm Hop for the 10 top Careers Month attendees, our first International Business Lunch and the QUT Business Societies’ Trivia Night—learn more about them here. We ended the year on a high with a good ol’ Sunday Sesh featuring barefoot bowls and good times at the New Farm Bowls Club. Our members rallied, celebrating AMPed’s successful year well into the early hours of Monday morning.
As the year draws to a close, I would like to thank the 2015 Executive Team for all their hard work and countless hours they have put into making 2015 such a success for AMPed. To our members, we have loved meeting and getting to know you throughout the year! 2016 is going to be another stellar year for AMPed with more social and professional events, greater membership benefits and increased opportunities.
Get AMPed, and we’ll see you in 2016!
